Missions for 2012

In 2012, we plan to continue our mission of "Leading People to an Active Faith in Jesus Christ" through service to the community. Below is a list of upcoming projects. If you would like to participate or have any questions, please contact Art Smallenberger or the Church Office.

 

 

January-February 2012: Heifer International. We are raising funds to donate a goat, sheep, or pig to a family overseas. Goal: $120.00

February 2012: Hillcrest Ministries. We will have two opportunities to serve Hillcrest Ministries this month. February 18th: A group will visit the Liberty Thrift Shop and help there as needed. February 25th: We will take an evening to go and prepare dinner and eat wih some of the Hillcrest families.

February-March 2012: UPLIFT. We will collect clothing and staples for UPLIFT's homeless ministry. Then a group of volunteers will visit their "store" and help as needed.

April-May 2012: Grand Avenue Temple Clothing and Toiletries Drive. The materials we gather will benefit the homeless that Grand Avenue Temple serves at their "Boutique".

May 2012: We will visit Grand Avenue Temple and serve a meal at their "Lazarus Table".

 

June 2012: Hillcrest Ministries. A group of volunteers will visit some families being helped by Hillcrest Ministries and have a "board game night"!

 

August 2012: Harvesters Food Drive.

September 2012: Harvesters. A team will visit Harvesters and help them in their warehouse.

 

October 2012: Restart Clothing Drive. We will be collecting ladies' underwear, towels, and socks (men's, women's, and children's).

2011 Missions in Review

Meadowbrook supported a variety of missions in the past year.

 

January 2011: Clothing drive for UPLIFT. Over 700 garments were collected, and a team of volunteers visited UPLIFT to help sort donations on-site. All donations were

distributed to the homeless of Kansas City.

February 2011: Harvester's Food Drive. 2 55 gallon

barrels were filled with donations from the congregation. Volunteers visited the Harvesters warehouse to sort and box donations.

 

May 2011: 21 volunteers from Meadowbrook served the homeless at Grand Avenue Temple's Lazarus Table.

 

June 2011: Targeted Clothing Drive for Grand Avenue Temple. Extra-Large T-shirts and men's tennis shoes (both urgent needs) were collected for the GAT's clothing boutique for the homeless.

 

July 2011: Joplin Disaster Relief. Meadowbrook assembled personal hygiene packs for those affected by the tornado.

 

 

August 2011: A team from Meadowbrook volunteered their time to help sort, price, and shelve merchandise at the Liberty Hillcrest Thrift Shop.

September 2011: SERVE 2011. In conjunction with MCCO, the church held a special commemorative service honoring those who lost their lives on 9/11/01. It was followed by a picnic at Happy Rock Park, attended by many of our local law enforcement officers.

October 2011: A team of volunteers from Meadowbrook joined with another church group to travel to Joplin MO and aid in the rebuilding efforts there.

November 2011: Northland Christmas Store Food Drive. Hamburger Helper and canned fruit were collected to be distributed to the less-fortunate here in the Northland.

 

December 2011: Beginning Sunday December 18th, we  collected winter gear (coats, hats, scarves, gloves, and tube socks) for the Kansas City Rescue Mission.
